More from the MotoGP press release:

Friday for Balaton Park P1 Acosta Advanced. After a tight opening day in Hungary, he covers the top ten in less than a second.

A dominant afternoon in the books for Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) will lead the MotoGP field into Saturday’s Sprint at Balaton Park, more than four-tenths clear of the Spaniard. A perfect Friday at the Hungarian GP saw the KTM star drop the checkered flag at Balaton Park on Friday ahead of Fabio Di Giantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) and Raul Fernandez (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team).

First Half: The dice start rolling

As the field exited the pitlane, the clock began to tick down for the 10 most important places to be decided ahead of Saturday’s game. Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), who is enjoying himself at the top, was leading the way as he continued his return to full fitness and familiarization with MotoGP. Halfway through the session, Acosta took himself to P1, the #37 from Balaton Park on Friday was actually third behind Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team), who, after taking P1 in FP1, was second with 25 minutes on the clock.

Upgrades Needed: Shocks, Wonders, and more.

As we descended into the final 20 minutes, one of the biggest surprises came into form, Iker Lecuona (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), putting together a lap that saw him go P9 in the WorldSBK Super Sub class. Others soon followed with the likes of Diogo Moreira (Pro Honda LCR), Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3) and teammate Ine Bastianini. Aldeguer returned to the top two places with the likes of Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol), Ai Ogura (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) needing a lap.

Last 5 minutes: time to push for Q2 places

All was to play when the checkered flag approached; Marini provisionally moved into P7 with Peco P8. Moreira, who briefly dropped out of the top ten, got the better of Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) in sixth when the South African crashed out of the top ten. There were late improvements from Di Giannantonio to Fernandez in third, but no one could lay a glove on Acosta, setting a 1’36.827 to beat the ‘Shark’ as the rider for the rest of the weekend.

Friday’s Top 10: The Battle of Balaton begins

Acosta set the weekend’s only 1’36, four tenths of a second back to Digia. Fernandez finished Friday in P3, putting three different teams and manufacturers in the top three. Aldeguer was a solid fourth ahead of Ogura and Bezecchi, with Marc Marquez seventh. The top ten was completed by Moreira, George Martin (Aprilia Racing) who took all four Aprilias straight into Q2 and Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP), placing ‘Thriller’ in a late lap for tenth overall.

Hot competition Q1: many stars and low field of world champions

Close but not enough for 11-year-old Fabio Quattararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP).Th0.054s ahead of Toprak Razgatlioglu (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP). Bagnaya was just 14 years old.ThOne place ahead of Bastianini then Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) 16Th; His teammate Marini was 13.Th. Lecuona’s Q2 surprise payment ended at 17Th But he’s just under three-tenths off Miller in P10.
