SERPENTINE MONTHLY FRIDAY 5km, Hyde Park, London, May 29

England Under 15 Southern District Champion Summer Smith took an easy women’s win.

Brentwood Beagle, 14, was among a number of youngsters making the most of the term on a hot sunny but relatively calm afternoon.

Smith, who tops the UK Under-16 3000m rankings with his 9:27.32 in April, was included in the top 10 overall, but was beaten by a PB of 16:48 exactly a year ago.

In third was British W45 champion Zoe Oldfield just seconds ahead of W60 champion Claire Elms.

Elms was competing less than 48 hours after breaking his W60 1500m world record and started very slowly, although a strong finish saw him equal his W60 course record and take a big lead in the overall age group.

He has run 18:23, 18:24 18:19, 18:16 and 18:16 at this monthly event since December.

Jules Renwick won the men’s race in 16:40.
