Even though Suryavanshi now sits at the youngest end of the spectrum, the Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to hold the record for being the oldest Emerging Player award winner. Gaikwad was 24 years and eight months old when he won the award in 2021. That memorable season saw him finish as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, secure the Orange Cap and be instrumental in Chennai Super Kings lifting the IPL trophy.

Who is eligible for the Emerging Player Award?

The BCCI has laid down specific guidelines to determine eligibility for the Emerging Player of the Season award. To qualify, a player must:

  • Be a goalless player.
  • Born after April 1, 2000.
  • You have played 25 or less IPL matches at the start of the season.
  • Has not won the Emerging Player Award before.

These criteria ensure that the award continues to recognize emerging talent that has made a significant impact on the tournament.
