Carlos Adames in talks to fight Osleys Iglesias at 168

Carlos Adames could be headed straight for one of the toughest fights available at 168 pounds.

Dominican boxing reporter Broadway Joel reported Friday that Adames is currently in negotiations with IBF super middleweight champion Osleys Iglesias for a fight at super middleweight.

Adames has spent the last few years campaigning at middleweight, holding the WBC title and building a reputation as one of the division’s toughest pushers. A move to 168 would immediately put him up against one of boxing’s hardest punchers.

Iglesias captured the vacant IBF super middleweight title with a win over Pavel Silyagin earlier this year. The Cuban quickly emerged as one of the division’s most dangerous punchers and was repeatedly mentioned as a tough fight for many of the bigger names at 168 pounds.

Adames, meanwhile, has spent most of his recent career at middleweight and would move directly into title contention at 168 rather than take a slower route through the division.

Iglesias (15-0, 14 KOs) has stopped most of his recent opponents and is considered by many fans to be one of the riskier fights currently available at 168 pounds.

A fight between Iglesias and Adames would suit two aggressive fighters rather than the cautious title fight style often seen in the division. Negotiations are ongoing, and no date or location has been announced.
