Chelsea held off a Tottenham comeback to claim a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge, with Enzo Fernández and Andrey Santos scoring to secure three crucial Premier League points.
Chelsea went into the game sitting 10th in the table with 49 points from 36 games. Tottenham reached 17th place with 38 points, desperate for a positive result. The Blues had recently stumbled to four consecutive defeats, while Spurs showed mixed form heading into this London derby.
Chelsea struck early and decisively. Enzo Fernández opened the scoring in the 18th minute and gave the locals a great start. The Argentinian midfielder’s finish thrilled Stamford Bridge and set the tone for the first period.
Tottenham struggled to get a foothold in the first half. Porro received a yellow card in the 28th minute for a reckless challenge. Van de Ven followed suit in the 43rd minute, picking up a booking as Spurs grew increasingly frustrated.
Chelsea controlled possession for much of the first 45 minutes. The home team’s passing accuracy reached 84 percent, with a total of 424 passes completed. Tottenham dominated the ball statistically, but Chelsea’s clinical approach proved more effective early on.
The second half started with Tottenham applying more pressure. However, Chelsea extended their lead in the 67th minute when Andrey Santos fired home a well-taken goal. Santos’ finish looked to have settled the game at 2-0.
The Spurs refused to give up. Richarlison pulled one back in the 74th minute, raising hopes of a dramatic turnaround. The Brazilian’s goal set up a tense finish as Tottenham pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
Udogie was booked in the 63rd minute as Tottenham’s frustration mounted. Chelsea’s defense held firm despite late pressure from Spurs. The visitors created chances but could not find the breakthrough.
Chelsea collected four yellow cards in the closing stages as they defended their narrow lead. Hato, Cucurella, Delap and Essugo received warnings. Tottenham’s expected goals total of 1.72 was better than Chelsea’s 0.63, but the home side converted their chances more efficiently.
Fernández put in an outstanding performance, earning an 8.6 rating and completing an assist alongside his goal. Santos matched the quality of his midfield partner with an 8.0 rating and a decisive finish. Richarlison’s goal kept Spurs in the contest, but it ultimately proved insufficient.
The statistics revealed a closely contested game. Both teams managed nine shots in total, although Chelsea’s accuracy proved superior. Possession favored Tottenham at 56 percent, but Chelsea’s efficiency made the difference.
This win lifts Chelsea to 52 points, maintaining their mid-table position. Tottenham remain in 17th place with 38 points as their relegation battle intensifies. The result reflects Chelsea’s improved form after recent struggles.
