Brian Norman Jr. doesn’t seem interested in taking much time off after his second-round knockout victory over Josh Wagner last Saturday night in Norfolk, Virginia.
The former WBO welterweight champion said afterwards that he sees the fight as a step to get back active after some time away from the ring, and he made it clear that he wants another fight soon.
“I mean, it was cool, but I mean, only had two laps. I was just trying to get him a little bad when I saw him a little big, but no, dude’s going to quit on me,” Norman Jr. said. to DAZN Boxing after the fight, talking about his win over Wagner.
“But no, it was cool. I guess you could say I’m the one kicking the dust. But man, let me go right back in.”
Norman Jr. also said that he has already started working with trainer Ronnie Shields, adding that the partnership has helped him stay calmer in the ring after an aggressive start against Wagner.
“I learned a lot from him about just being calm and cool. You know what I’m saying? Like, I was just chilling the whole time,” Norman Jr. said.
“For me, this house now. Like, I mean, no matter what, I don’t care who’s out here watching or who’s not watching. Do you feel me? I’m stepping into these ropes. This is my place of business. This is my home.”
The 25-year-old Norman Jr. will likely need a stronger opponent next time out if he hopes to move back into position for another welterweight title fight. A rematch with Devin Haney would be one of the biggest fights available for him, while fights against WBA champion Rolando Romero or WBC titleholder Ryan Garcia could also become options if Norman Jr. keep winning
