Kristoffer Reitan’s win IN Quail Hollow it was vindication not only for the PGA Tour rookie, but also for The new Ping Scottsdale TEC shot platform.
If indirectly.
Officially, credit goes to Reitan’s win Ping’s PLD Platformtheir custom build program for machines that typically have milled faces. But according to Ping’s Chief Design Engineer, Tony Serrano, the shooter has all the guts of new line Scottsdale TEC.
“The pitcher he has now is, in my opinion, a TEC putter,” Serrano told GOLF. “We made it here on our machines for him. Same sole plate, same head, same insert, same clutch. The only thing different, he wanted a different line of sight on it.”
In February, Reitan visited Ping PLD lab to work on his appearance while the tournament was in Arizona for the WM Phoenix Open. It was the rookie’s first chance to visit the headquarters during a tour week.
In testing, Ping engineers found that Reitan, who at the time was using a face-balanced shooter, could do much better with something that dangled his fingers.
“We could see, and he saw the numbers, it suggested he needed a little thumbs down,” Serrano said. “He didn’t fit that well with a face-balanced shooter.
“He needed something that would match his natural stroke.”

Turns out he needed something very different from what he was using.

Reitan eventually landed on a new one Ping Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue H shooter. Ally Blue H an option of Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue Onset that is available nowbut with a plumber’s neck, which made the square hammer to match the Reitan’s bow stroke.
While the Ally Blue H is not available in the US market, it is in other markets around the world and on the Ping Tour truck.
Reitan loved almost everything about the new gauge, from the feel and spin of the PEBAX insert, to the white finish and the way the putter released his shot. However, he wanted one with a simple full line of sight instead of the EyeQ version on the TEC that has a dot on the top line and then a full trailing line.
Rather than take an existing Scottsdale TEC head and machine the sight to a full line, Serrano built Reitan a PLD version of the Scottsdale TEC, just with a different line of sight. It was easier to build a new shooter from scratch while retaining every other feature of the Scottsdale TEC.

This includes the new PEBAX insert that is made from a material first used in running shoes. It offers a feel on the softer side, but due to the lighter weight and increased power transfer, it’s still quite responsive and lively.
Reitan took the machine, built to his specifications at 37″ and 2˚ loft, a few weeks ago and put it into play for the first time at Quail Hollow. He finished second in the field in SG: Pitching, catching 5,158 hits.
