The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 continues to deliver high-octane drama and the 51st match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi was no exception. Friday evening Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) gave a masterclass in demolition, clinical cricket Delhi Capitals (DC) on his own field. In a contest that saw momentum swing dramatically in the first half, it was the ‘Fin Allen Show’ that took center stage as KKR cruised to a massive 8-wicket victory with 34 balls to spare.
Disciplined KKR bowling restricts DC to a modest score
Winning the toss and electing to field, KKR’s bowling unit executed their plans with surgical precision. It started with intent like the Delhi Capitals Pathum Nissanka he played a single hand of brilliance, smashing 50 off just 29 deliveries. Next to it KL Rahul (23 from 14), Capitals looked set for a big score, reaching 49/0 in less than 5 overs. But once broken by the opening stand Karthik Tyagithe tires began to come off for the home team.
Anukul Roy He turned the tide in the middle overs, finishing with impressive figures of 12 for 3 in his four overs. His ability to spin and bounce stifled the DC middle order considering the dangerous Tristan Stubbs and a well-built Nissanka. Sunil Narine he was as sloppy as ever, conceding a paltry 17 runs in his quota. Samir Rizvi.
DC’s struggles were evident as they fell from 74/1 to 89/5. Ashutosh Sharma (39 off 28) provided a late flourish to close the gap but Tyagi’s discipline (2/25) and Vaibhav Arora ensured that no delay bursts occurred. Delhi eventually crawled to 142/8, which felt significantly lower on a Delhi surface known for rewarding an aggressive batting game.
Finn Allen’s fiery century gives KKR a shock win over DC in IPL 2026
If the first shot was a battle of attrition, the second shot was a blitzkrieg. KKR’s chase got off to a dangerous start as they lost their captain Ajinkya Rahane (13) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (1) Inside Powerplay, releasing them on 31/2. However, what followed was one of the most devastating displays of batting seen in IPL 2026.
Allen, was introduced as Impact Player for Varun Chakrabortyplayed an innings for centuries. The New Zealander reached his half-century off 32 balls, but then got into unstoppable gear. Next to it Cameron Green (33* off 27), Allen dismantled the DC bowling attack. Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav Allen was shown no respect as he cleared the ropes with ease, hitting 10 powerful sixes and 5 fours.
The action was so fierce that KKR raced from 50 to 100 just five times. Allen reached his unbeaten century off just 47 balls, bringing up the milestone and victory simultaneously in the 15th over. His strike rate of 212.76 stunned the Delhi crowd and the DC bowlers looked for a response.
With this win, KKR consolidate their position in the standings, while DC faces a tough road ahead. For his record-breaking effort and MVP score of 116.97, Allen became the undisputed Player of the Match, reminding the world why he is one of the most feared openers in the shortest format.
