Richard Torrez Jr. Want Moses Itauma Heavyweight Fight

“I’m over that action, man,” Torrez continues Ring Magazine about a possible fight with Itauma. “I think it’s really cool what he’s doing in the UK. I think he’s an incredible fighter.”

The Olympic silver medalist said a matchup between the two could produce one of the more entertaining heavyweight fights in the sport because of their styles and willingness to engage.

“If we were able to collide and make something happen, it would be fireworks, man,” Torrez said. “I’m not running from smoke. I want the best fights.”

Torrez also pointed out that he believes Itauma has yet to face an opponent with similar speed and movement.

“He hasn’t really fought anybody that has that quickness and speed,” Torrez said. “I just want to be able to throw my hat in there and see how it goes.”

The 25-year-old added that his conditioning, amateur background and style give him confidence against any heavyweight prospect currently coming through the division.

“With my finesse, my conditioning and my style, it would make it difficult for anyone,” Torrez said.

Torrez revealed that he has never met Itauma, although he has already been repeatedly linked to him online by fans.

“I’ve never talked to him. I’ve never seen him in person,” Torrez said. “But I heard he’s a pretty stand-up guy.”

Torrez faces Sanchez later this month in what could move him closer to a heavyweight title eliminator, while Itauma continues to build momentum in the UK as one of boxing’s fastest rising young heavyweights.
