“Let’s get it going!” Dubois told Fight Hub TV about a possible fight with Benavidez.
The timing of the comment is interesting because Benavidez openly talked about bigger goals after stopping Zurdo. He already has a size advantage over most fighters at 175 and cruiserweight, but heavyweight is a completely different world. Dubois steps into the ring at around 260 pounds and is one of the division’s toughest punchers.
Many fans immediately focused on the physical difference. Benavidez looked big at 168 and still looked naturally bigger than David Morrell and Oleksandr Gvozdyk at 175, big in cruiserweight against Zurdo, but heavyweight power is another level. Dubois is a full heavyweight who has been with Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua, Filip Hrgovic and Jarrell Miller.
The reaction online has mostly been skepticism about Benavidez’s chances if he moves up that far. Some fans believe that its volume punches and pressure can bother heavyweights, but many others see that the size and durability difference quickly becomes a serious problem.
Another issue is whether Benavidez needs heavyweight at all. Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev still sit at 175, and there are big fights available for him without giving away 40 or 50 pounds on fight night.
Dubois also has bigger business directly ahead of him. If he gets past Wardley this weekend, the focus could shift to undisputed talks or other big heavyweight fights. Still, the fact that he immediately welcomed Benavidez says a lot. Dubois clearly doesn’t consider him too dangerous to invite into the division.
