“There’s an unwritten question with Liberty Media coming in… Liberty Media is known to want a lot from the teams, and the teams are saying, ‘Don’t ask us anything about the £50m we’re putting into bikes. We’re putting a lot of money into that.’
“Before, the sport was on free-to-air television, and it had enough exposure, it was huge advertising, but now it’s not like that, so if you want more from us and we have to keep using the same money, we need a fair distribution of money, like Formula 1.’
“This really comes down to Carmelo, because he said he didn’t sell this model, he sold ideas that have a certain value for the teams. On the other hand, the teams want a percentage of the profit… Carmelo said that the profit is at risk.
Because there will be more charges based on what the teams and factories demand. Because they invest more money, they need more attention. They don’t want to impose more demands… they want fair distribution of TV rights…”

Abad went on to say that the current negotiations cannot affect the riders or the teams. It’s the high-ups on both ends who are getting hurt.
