Odyssey is making a big push into the premium keg space.
After gaining traction on Tour over the past few months, Odyssey is releasing its first models Damascus Milled shooter formation in a limited decline in form no.7. The kickers have Damascus steel inserts and soleplates, each with a unique pattern.
“Damascus steel is a beautiful material and the patterns tell the story because each one is different,” Odyssey general manager Jacob Davidson said in a release. “But what stands out is that, as beautiful as these stocks are, the feedback from the Tour has been the incredible feel of these putters. We wanted to offer the most premium performance-driven machine we’ve ever made at Odyssey. When you look at this product, we have so much confidence because there’s not one thing we’d do differently. For that last pair, we really took our time to test the design.”
Damascus Milled irons have been used by many players on the PGA Tour since their time presentation at Cognizant Classic.
The first extremely limited drop of Damascus grinders will feature the popular shape no. 7 in single-turn and crank configurations.

What’s really new with Odyssey Damascus Milled putters — and why you should care
Looks good, decide better
Damascus steel is renowned throughout the high-end boutique world for offering a unique pattern in every piece, as well as an exceptionally soft yet responsive feel. The material is created by layering 61 sheets of two different types of steel, one softer and the other harder, before being rolled, pressed, cut and then twisted to create the unique designs.
The back of the insert is then designed with “Ai-contours” to promote consistent ball speeds across the face. So not only do these stocks offer a premium and unique look, but they also perform up to the expectations of Tour pros.

“One of the big comments we’ve gotten from Tour time and time again is that a ground putter has to be loud, it has to feel strong enough, it has to be strong enough,” said Odyssey director of research and development Eric Stubben. “We wanted to create something stronger and a stronger touch, and as we look back at the things we’ve done in the past, Damascus continued to emerge as something that’s premium and a little bit stronger.”
While Odyssey is known as an insert company, almost all of their releases, including the recent Ai-One Milled lines, have inserts that make for a softer feel. This version offers something different.
Not only does the insole feature the high-end material, but so do the soleplates, ensuring no two drop insoles look the same.
More to come

Odyssey
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Odyssey jump into the Damascus material space, but it might be the most premium-looking effort yet, and it looks like it won’t be the last.
We’ve seen more models of the Damascus Milled line on the PGA Tour, and Odyssey is formulating this version of the two model no. 7 as the first of the “limited sale,” meaning more are on the way.
My take: Odyssey is making a premium push
Gone are the days when Odyssey tires were simply your cheapest option.
Recently, the company has seemed willing to take the risk in the name of innovation to get rid of the stereotype of just being the easiest player you can find. They’ve always been at the forefront of innovation and ranked high in market usage, but often, their price points can give the illusion that their setters weren’t necessarily premium.
As Tri-Hot releases have shown they can innovate with the best sellers on the market, this version of Damascus does something different.
In a world of Scotty Camerons, Bettinardis, Ping PLD and more one-of-a-kind designers like Logan Olson and Tyson Lamb, Odyssey is showing they can compete in that space too, creating pieces of art for the greens.
They’re also showing they can do it with the massive research and development arm of one of the world’s biggest golf companies.
To me, Odyssey’s Damascus Milled line signals a shift for the brand and the market as a whole towards a premium focus. That’s certainly something consumers are asking for, but at a price tag of nearly $700, it’ll be worth seeing if the Odyssey’s consumer base actually buys.
All in all, these are going to be very sought after gauges, so if you have the opportunity to purchase one, I wouldn’t hesitate.
