Former Manchester United manager Benni McCarthy has opened up about his relationship with Marcus Rashford, admitting he was often the one to deliver hard facts to the striker.
The former first-team manager left Old Trafford in June after spending two years working with Erik ten Hag’s side. He recently set out his views on the head under fire, and confessed that the Dutch doesn’t have the “passion” managing a team like the Red Devils.
He has now taken the time to do an analysis of the academy graduate Rashfordwho has endured a few tough seasons in Manchester.
“Rashford is special – he is a special human being,” he said SuperSport Unplugged. “He has a pure heart and is Man Utd through and through.
“He was ‘Marcus’ (as opposed to ‘Rashy’) to me. I’m straight to the point and I think he respected that instead of me sweet-talking him for other reasons. He was just a straight shooter and I think he certainly didn’t he had enough people in his life to be honest with him because everyone tells him what he wants to hear because of who he is.
“I was normal and I think he appreciated that, so any kind of advice that would come to me, advice on anything. We still message each other.”
Rashford has enjoyed a positive start to the 2024/25 campaign, scoring four goals in 11 games, just four short of the eight he managed all of last season.
