ADDIS ABABA (ETH, April 18). At the Addis Ababa Grand Prix (WACT bronze), Ferdinand Omanyala won the 100m with a time of 9.98 (-0.2) ahead of Haiti’s Christopher Borzor (10.16) and Chituru Ali (10.26). The first WACT match in Ethiopia was a great success with a packed stadium and a great atmosphere.

Several sprints were affected by a strong headwind, with Olympic champion Gabby Thomas recording a double in the 100m 11.13 (-4.0) and 200m 22.15 (-0.9) over Cambria Sturgis (22.42). 400m wins by Botswana’s Justice Oratile 44.92 over Nhial Gnang (45.53) and Bahrain’s Kemi Adekoya in PB 50.28 ahead of Kenya’s Mercy Chebet (51.38 PB) and Ajaiba Alyu fourth in Ethiopia’s N7R2. USA’s Bianca Stabler won the 400m hurdles (55.76), Kenya’s Samuel Chege won the 200m 20.63 (-3.5) and USA’s Tionna Tobias won the long jump with 667 PB (0.9) to Egypt’s Owis Esraa 661 (0.0). In the short hurdles, Americans Eric Edwards wins 13.61 (-2.8) and Rainia Jones wins 13.14 (-5.5) over Sirena Samba-Mayela (13.65). Nigist Getachev in 800m (2:01.65) and Samuel Firevu in 5000m (13:46.09) recorded notable victories at altitude.
