Lee Carsley doesn’t want a full-time job in England

Interim England manager Lee Carsley does not want the Three Lions job on a permanent basis, according to reports.

Carsley, who was promoted to the senior team on an interim basis after Gareth Southgate made the decision to leave England in the summer, has been in charge of three of the country’s international matches. Their record so far has seen them earn wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland, before slumping to a 2-1 defeat to Greece on Thursday.

While his mandate was initially announced for three England camps, from September to November, fans began to wonder if the Under-21 boss would be given the job on a permanent basis.

However, the reports of Telegraph Sportshave revealed that Carsley is not interested in extending his stay with the senior team.

He recently revealed that he was eager to return to his position at youth leveladmitting he was “hopeful” his results at the senior stage would not affect his previous role.

Carsley was asked to elaborate on those comments during Saturday’s press conference, during which he revealed his “pride” in the youth team.

“Hopefully that’s a word and a phrase I use quite a bit. Obviously, there are no guarantees in life, including tomorrow.

“It’s a job, the Under-21s, that I’m very proud of and have invested massively in. But I know there are no guarantees. But the plan is to give that job (the England senior team) for three pitches the best I can do together with the rest of the staff and hopefully we can be in a good position.

“I wanted to give this job my best shot for three pitches. I didn’t want to regret it. I think it’s important that we try something different sometimes and I think I’ll be a better coach because of it, but I think tomorrow night we’ll be a little more conventional”.

England face Finland at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki on Sunday. Meanwhile, former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is in talks over a permanent England role.
