Addis will host the first WACT meeting with top names

ADDIS ABABA (ETH). The first ever WA Continental Tour meeting on Ethiopian soil, the Addis Ababa Grand Prix (WACT Bronze) on Saturday will feature not only homegrown aces, but also several international elite athletes. The headliner, 200m Olympic champion Gabby Thomas, will face compatriot Cambria Sturgis. France’s Sirena Samba-Mayela competes with American Rainia Jones in the 100m hurdles. World record holder Lamecha Girma is competing in the women’s 800m and 1500m relays, and the men’s 5000m relay and 3000m steeplechase. Other international athletes include USA’s Eric Edwards in the 110m hurdles, 19-year-old Botswanan Justice Oratil in the 400m and Tokyo 800m Olympic champion Ferguson Rotich of Kenya. The only field events are both long jump events.
