Somehow, someway, Cameron Young is co-directing The 2026 Masters goes to Sunday’s final round IN Augusta National. Despite opening the tournament with a 73 and behind eight shots after two rounds, he is tied with Rory McIlroy with 18 holes to play.
But before Young goes to battle with McIlroy for green jacket On Sunday afternoon, he has a unique plan for Sunday morning. And it’s one that worked perfectly for Young at this year’s Players Championship.
He will go to mass with the whole family.
Cameron Young says Maundy Sunday will not disrupt the church
At the start of Masters week, Young explained a common practice he and his family spend most Sundays on the PGA Tour: finding a local Catholic church to attend Sunday morning mass.
Youth and family didn’t skip church on Sunday at last month’s Players Championship. And it was a good thing they didn’t. Young went out and shot a 68 after par to capture the biggest win of his career at TPC Sawgrass.

Competing at the “fifth engine” might not be enough to get Young to break the bank, but what about the Masters lead?
Not a chance. Young revealed that he plans to take his family to Mass in Augusta before making it to the final round, just like every other week.
Although since Saturday night, he wasn’t quite sure which local church they would find themselves in on Sunday morning.
“I don’t know where we’re going yet, but we’re going to find somewhere and take the kids. We’re going to be out in force as usual,” Young confirmed Saturday night in Augusta.
As for whether it will be difficult to attend Mass in anonymity since he is co-host of the Masters, Young said: “It might, but it won’t stop us.”
We’ll have to wait and see if the Young family’s prayers can help their patriarch survive unscathed at Amen Corner on Sunday.
Youngsters in Sunday’s Masters crowds: ‘I don’t get it I’m going to be fan favourite’
As soon as he returns to Augusta National after Mass on Sunday, Young knows he will have a difficult task ahead of him.
Keeping calm on Masters Sunday isn’t easy, but Young thinks his recent experience winning The Players Championship will help.
“I said that, I think in my press conference afterward (at The Players 2026), that really what I was trying to do was prepare to play late Sunday at Augusta. Now I’m here with what’s going to be a late game Sunday at Augusta, and that’s the best preparation I could have asked for.”
So Young’s plan is to duplicate his “process” from Sunday at TPC Sawgrass and try to stay calm in the knowledge that all contenders will have good and bad stretches in the final round.

“I’m going to try to run pretty much the same process, the same mentality as I did that day (at The Players). I remember doing a great job of staying where I was, knowing that everybody’s going to do a few different things throughout the day. At some point most people are going to go for a run and most people are going to make a bogey or two.”
He continued: “I can’t say when it will be for me, but at the end of the day, you just have to stay in your lane and play the best golf you can and see where you are with a few holes to go. There’s not a lot you can change before that.”
As for Masters patrons on Sunday at Augusta, Young has a strong feeling that McIlroy, the reigning champion and “world favourite”, will have much more support from outside the ropes.
“I don’t understand that I’m going to be the fan favorite, but yeah, I feel like the support, some of the fans cheering for me has gotten louder over the last year. I think it’s still going to be unclear. Rory is kind of the favorite in the world in the golf world,” Young said. “A year ago, if I was in the same situation, there would be very little, and now there’s probably a little bit more. So I’ll take what I can get and be happy with that.”
No matter what happens on SundayYoung takes comfort in the fact that when it’s over, he’ll go back to his wife and kids, like every week, and life will go on.
“I like having (his wife and kids) out and having a more normal job. Instead of saying goodbye for three weeks or four weeks, whatever, I go to work a long day, but I was with them this morning and I’ll see them tonight. It’s nice to do that,” Young said.
