After last season’s inconsistency and fifth place, it has been a good start to the season for United. They beat West Ham 3-0 in their first game, and followed that up with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Everton.

Grace Clinton has come back to life at the club nicely, scoring in those two wins in September, while two clean sheets bode well defensively. There will be bigger tests, with games against Tottenham, Brighton and Arsenal, but there is confidence radiating from Marc Skinner’s side.

After a strong summer of recruitment, many predicted Brighton would be the surprise package this season. If the first two days are anything to go by, maybe it will be.

They managed a win against Everton at home in their first game, and although they were beaten by Manchester City on matchday two, it was a very close game. Only one goal separated the two teams, and the Seagulls were always in the game.

As expected, last season’s WSL the champions have started the new season strongly. They earned a 1-0 win over Aston Villa on matchday one, but went past seven unbeaten Crystal Palace a week later.

They have yet to face one of their title rivals, with Arsenal next, but they have started with the intention of continuing. Sonia Bompastor’s side have the better goal difference, despite having played one fewer game than their nearest rivals at this stage, and Chelsea can only be seen going further.
