Celta Vigo staged an impressive second-half comeback to defeat Valencia 3-2 at the Mestalla, with Guido RodrÃguez’s brace for the home side ultimately in vain.
Celta Vigo secured a thrilling 3-2 away win against Valencia in a La Liga match. They overturned a first-half deficit, scoring three goals after the break to take the three points. Guido RodrÃguez scored twice for Valencia, but his efforts were overshadowed by Celta’s resilience.
Going into this crucial match, Valencia were 13th in the league standings, looking for consistency to climb the table. Seventh-placed Celta Vigo were looking to consolidate their push for European qualification, coming off the back of recent form with two wins in their last five outings.
The home side started with purpose. Valencia took an early lead when Guido RodrÃguez headed home in the 12th minute. He collected a pass in the box, then drilled a powerful shot into the net, giving Valencia the lead. The Mestalla crowd erupted in celebration.

The Celta coach made decisive changes at the restart, introducing three substitutes: J. El Abdellaoui, Williot Swedberg, and Pablo Durán. This triple change immediately revitalized the visiting attack.
The impact was swift. Ilaix Moriba equalized for Celta Vigo in the 56th minute, sweeping the ball past the keeper after some fluid play by the team. Just four minutes later, Celta completed their turnaround; Fer López guided the ball home to give his team a 2-1 lead in the 60th minute.
The Valencia coach responded with multiple substitutions of his own. Hugo Duro, Umar Sadiq and Andre Almeida entered the fray in the 63rd minute, followed by Javi Guerra a minute later. Valencia pressed hard to equalize, but Celta’s defense kept up with the pressure.
Williot Swedberg then extended Celtic’s lead, expertly finishing from close range in the 81st minute. The goal provided the visitors with crucial breathing space. Despite this, Guido RodrÃguez scored his second of the game for Valencia in the 90+3 minute, a late consolation assisted by Umar Sadiq.
Celta de Vigo showed impressive offensive efficiency. They scored three goals with an expected goals (xG) figure of 1.04, registering five shots on goal from a total of nine attempts. Valencia, on the other hand, only converted two goals from their 0.81 xG despite having 13 shots in total. Celta also dominated possession with 58%.
This hard-fought victory propels Celta Vigo firmly into the fight for European places, strengthening their grip on 7th place. Valencia will reflect on a disappointing defeat at home, missing the chance to gain ground in mid-table.
