“I wonder why Devin is afraid to unite against rolls??? I don’t get it,” Garcia posted on X.
“Devin I’ll fight you in July! Stop saying drug testing, stupid FUCK MYSELF.”
Ryan is playing a high-level game of musical chairs, and he tries to pull the seat out from under Haney. By pushing for Julie, he’s not only looking for a fight, but looking to completely blow up the Haney-Romero unification.
Ryan knows that Haney and Rolly were in “serious discussions” for a May 30 meeting at Barclays. By jumping on X and calling Haney “afraid” to unite, Ryan is taking advantage of the fact that the deal hasn’t been signed yet.
He effectively tells the fans and the networks that Haney is wasting time on a “difficult” negotiation with Rolly when a “mega-fight” is right there for Julie. This puts Haney in a position where if the Rolly fight falls through, it looks like he’s backing down, not just to cut a deal.
Ryan is sitting on a massive high after taking that WBC belt from Mario Barrios in February. He has the momentum that Devin lacks right now. Haney hasn’t fought since beating Brian Norman Jr. beat in November, and the longer he waits to finalize Rolly, the more the “paper champion” talk starts moving towards him. Ryan is trying to force Haney into a summer window that may be too short for a full, proper camp, especially if Haney has peaked for a May date that is now slipping.
It’s a classic power play: Ryan acts like the A-side because, in terms of social media engagement and recent activity, he currently is.
