Keith Thurman tells fans to split $75 PPV for Fundora

“You’re supposed to watch Keith Thurman because you love boxing. Where’s your homies, where’s the bros? Get the uncles, get the aunties, get your neighbor. Put together a beautiful night. We’ll go blow by blow,” Thurman told Shawn Porter’s channel.

The pitch shifts the focus away from the prize itself and toward how fans can manage it. Instead of explaining why the fight is worth $75, Thurman is asking buyers to work around the cost, which hasn’t gone down well with fans who already weigh the value of the card.

Fan reaction has been steady, and the backlash goes beyond the $75 price tag. The fight itself hasn’t convinced buyers that it belongs at that level, with concerns related as much to the match as the cost involved.

Thurman is coming straight back into a world title fight after a long period of inactivity, without any fights to rebuild his position, and that return has fed into the criticism. He enters a championship fight at 154 against a younger, active titleholder, making the matchup look uneven on paper.

There’s also the issue of whether it belongs on pay-per-view. Sebastian Fundora has titles but is not established as a pay-per-view headliner, while Thurman’s name recognition comes from an earlier part of his 19-year career rather than recent activity at the top of the division. Taken together, it doesn’t read like a natural PPV main event.

The card adds to that view, with the supporting lineup lacking the kind of depth usually expected at this price point, leaving the complete package closer to a standard broadcast than a premium event.

The fight still carries intrigue. Fundora’s style creates problems, and Thurman, 37, has the experience to adapt if he can still perform at a high level. That’s usually what sells a fight.

Here, however, the focus has shifted to the price and how it is explained. Thurman is asking fans to find a way to pay for it instead of showing them why they should want to. It’s a tough sell, and it sounds like one.
