NIKE Indoor Nationals, Day Four. Five gifts. Marcelo Mantecone’s 4 wins, the Maxwell Twins and Braylin Combe.

The last day of the Grand Championship always has enough surprises for many. Some athletes overcome obstacles, some add obstacles, some forget how to run, some, for the first time, remember.

We saw the culmination of months of work preparing for the event and a season of training based on multiple training modalities, running, jumping and throwing alongside the best in the nation.

This is what we saw on day 4.

  1. Mariah Maxwell ran 22.84, a performance that ranked him No. 4 in high school history and the leading tackle in the U.S. for 2026. Maria’s time was the second fastest in meet history, just behind MR’s 22.81. In second place? Mia Maxwell, who would go on to win the triple jump that very day.
  2. Four days, four victories Marcelo Mantecon. Marcelo won the 5000m on Thursday, the 2 mile on Friday, Marcelo anchored the DMR on Saturday and the mile on Sunday in 4:00.66, giving him four big NIN wins. Marcelo told NSAF’s Paul Leamer and RBR’s Larry Eder on Friday. “I like to compete.” And that, he did.

  3. Jake O’Day-Jordan just flew around the 200m track in 20.72 minutes. It was USA’s No. 9 all-time, Jakey got the win and the fans went wild. Jake also ran the 60 meters.
  4. The girls championship was won by Braelyn Combe against Ellery Lincoln. Braylin ran the 800 meters in 2:25, too slow for this crowd. Braylin took off and those long, strong legs dominated the final 800 meters, running 2:12.7 over the last half of the race to finish in 4:38.18, the #3 time in history. In second, Ellery Lincoln kept the race very close.
  5. Dillon Mitchell goes fast, real fast listing. Dillon ran the 60 meters in 6.67, the fourth fastest time in meet history. Last weekend, Dillon ran a wind-assisted 9.98 (5.69 wind) and then a legal 10.19 for the 100m. And Dillon is sixteen years old.
  6. One final note. check out next week for our final indoor season newsletter, #25, with great recaps of NIN and World Indoors.
