Jaime Munguia will challenge Armando Reséndiz for the WBA super middleweight title on May 2 in Las Vegas.
Reséndiz is set to make his first defense on the Benavidez vs. Gilberto Ramirez undercard, with Munguia confirmed as the co-main event opponent after negotiations are completed. Talks for the all-Mexican game broke down over financial terms earlier this year, but the deal is now complete.
Jermall Charlo was discussed as an alternative during that period, and reports earlier this week pointed in that direction. Those talks did not result in a fight, with Munguia ultimately securing the shot once terms were settled.
The match returns the card to its original direction, with a Mexican title fight now in place after a brief delay in negotiations.
Reséndiz moves forward with his first defense on a big stage. The opponent is now set.
