Raphinha’s hat-trick powered Barcelona to a dominant 5-2 win over Sevilla at Camp Nou, extending their lead at the top of La Liga.
Going into the game, league leaders Barcelona sat comfortably at the top of the table with 67 points. Meanwhile, 14th-placed Sevilla looked to improve their position in mid-table after a string of draws.
Barcelona wasted no time in asserting their dominance. Raphinha opened the scoring in the 9th minute, calmly converting from the penalty spot. He then doubled his tally and Barcelona’s lead just 12 minutes later, scoring another penalty in the 21st minute.
The home side continued to press their advantage. Dani Olmo extended Barcelona’s advantage to three goals in the 38th minute and scored a clinical finish past the goalkeeper. Seville’s G. Suazo received a yellow card shortly before for holding on.
Sevilla found some hope just before the break. Oso pulled one back for the visitors in the 45+3 minute, guiding a well-placed shot into the net to reduce the deficit. This provided a lifeline for the second half.
Despite a significant advantage, Barcelona knew that Sevilla could still threaten. The visitors, now 3-1 up, needed a strong performance in the second half to make any attempt at a comeback. Tactical adjustments were expected from both benches.
Barcelona started the second half with renewed intensity. Raphinha completed his magnificent hat-trick in the 51st minute, firing from open play to restore Barcelona’s three-goal lead. The Camp Nou erupted in celebration.
João Cancelo added his name to the scoreboard in the 60th minute, with a powerful strike that made it 5-1. Both teams made multiple substitutions as the game progressed, with Fermín López providing an assist for Raphinha earlier on.
Sevilla grabbed another late consolation goal. D. Sow scored in the 90+2 minute, converting an opportunity created by Oso. This final goal did not change the overall result much, but it gave Sevilla a little more sight.
The statistics highlighted Barcelona’s dominance. They finished with an expected goal (xG) of 3.36 compared to Sevilla’s 0.59. Barcelona also boasted 61% possession, 13 shots in total (8 on target), while Sevilla had 9 shots in total (4 on target).
This decisive victory consolidates Barcelona’s position at the top of the League. Sevilla, despite their late efforts, face a tough road up the table. Barcelona’s title continues with confidence.
