A dramatic moment Second ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan It sparked heated scenes on the field at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur and reignited the long-standing debate surrounding the Spirit of Cricket.
Salman Agha’s fiery reaction: Throws gloves and helmet in anger
Pakistani pastry Salman Ali Agha He lost his cool after being uncharacteristically run out by the Bangladesh captain Mehidi Hasan Miraz In the crucial phase of Pakistan’s innings.
The controversial moment came in the 39th minute and quickly became the talk of the match. What initially appeared to be a routine game soon turned into a heated exchange between players from both sides.
At that stage of the match, Pakistan were rebuilding strongly after an early wobble. Agha and Mohammad Rizwan put up a valuable 109-run partnership for the fourth wicket, steadying the innings and putting their team in a strong position.
Drama unfolded when Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled the fourth ball in the 39th over. Rizwan gently nudged the ball towards mid-off and as it rolled towards the non-striker, Mehidi came behind him and stopped the ball with his shoe.
Seeing the ball close to him, Agha – standing outside his crease – made an instinctive move. In what appeared to be a gesture of sportsmanship, he bent over as if to pick up the ball and hand it back to the bowler.
But Mehidi reacted immediately. The Bangladesh captain caught the ball and put it under his arm while Agha was still on the edge of his crease. Mehidi immediately appealed for escape.
The on-field referee Tanvir Ahmed entrusted the decision to the third referee. After a quick review, TV umpire Kumar Dharmasena ruled that the ball remained in play and that Agha had not placed his bat behind the crease in time. The verdict confirmed that the Pakistan captain was run out.
The dismissal caused Agha’s immediate dismay. The Pakistan captain, normally known for his calm demeanor, reacted angrily to the decision. Cameras showed him dropping his gloves and helmet in visible frustration.
He also had a heated verbal exchange with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das. The confrontation briefly escalated before Mohammad Rizwan stepped in to calm the situation, physically separating the players and preventing the altercation from getting out of hand.
Agha continued to show his displeasure as he walked off the field, again throwing his gloves and helmet aside near the boundary rope.

Interestingly, though the dismissal was controversial, it ultimately did not go in Bangladesh’s favour. Before the incident, Pakistan were comfortably at 231 for 3 at 38.3, with Agha hitting a well-built 64 off 62 and Rizwan’s partnership gaining momentum.
The run briefly disrupted Pakistan’s progress. Rizwan was dismissed after just two balls and the rest of the wickets fell quickly, with the last seven wickets adding just 43 runs.
But Bangladesh failed to capitalize on this opportunity during their chase.
Rain breaks meant Bangladesh were set a revised DLS target of 243 runs in 32 overs. But Pakistan’s bowlers dominated the contest and Bangladesh collapsed in dramatic fashion.
The hosts were eventually bowled out for 114 runs, handing Pakistan a convincing 128-run win and leveling the three-match ODI series at 1-1.

Legal framework: What does ICC law say?
The incident sparked yet another debate among cricket fans and pundits about the balance between the rules of the game and its unwritten values. According to the laws of cricket, the decision was legally correct. The ball was still in play and Agha had not moved when the stumps broke.
However, critics have debated whether Mehidi’s action may have distracted or impeded the batsman’s attempt to return to the crease. Others argued that Aga’s attempt to retrieve the ball created an unusual situation in the first place.
