Suresh Raina picks LSG captain Rishabh Pant’s batting position for IPL 2026

Expectation around Indian Premier League (IPL) As the 2026 season approaches, fans are eagerly awaiting the next exciting edition of the world’s most popular T20 franchise tournament. The new season is scheduled to begin on March 28, bringing together top international stars and emerging Indian talent in what promises to be a highly competitive campaign.

Every IPL season carries huge expectations not only for the teams but also for the star players who shoulder the responsibilities of leadership. With the franchise assembling strong squads and fine-tuning its strategy, discussions around team formations and batting orders have already begun to gather pace. Ex-Indian Corpse Suresh Raina recently shared his thoughts on how he was doing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) they should build their batting line-up especially with regard to their captain’s role Rishabh pants.

Suresh Raina picks batting line-up for Rishabh Pant in LSG lineup

During a discussion on Star Sports, Raina suggested that Lucknow should consider promoting Pant in the batting order to maximize his impact. According to the former Chennai Super Kings star, Pant could have batted more effectively at No.3 rather than dropping down the order.

Raina explained that LSG’s middle order could struggle if wickets fall early, especially in high-scoring chases. He suggested a slightly modified batting order to avoid spillage and maintain momentum.

“If four batsmen come out, there will be some sort of confusion in the lineup. Abdul Samad has come after winning the Ranji Trophy, but when they are chasing 210 or 220, I feel they will have to tweak it a bit there. Get Rishabh Pant at No. 3 and play Nicholas Pooran at No. 4. Abdul Samad, Ayush will be between you. Left-armer in Shahbaz Ahmed spinner, he also hits the bat very well.” Raina said.

Raina further emphasized that Pant and Nicholas Pooran will be crucial if the openers fail to provide a solid start. He also expressed confidence that the LSG captain can apply a more aggressive approach this season.

“They don’t have 5 to 8 power hitters. I feel Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran have a very important role to play even if two players are out of the top. He will have to justify his captaincy this time. I feel Rishabh will be a little different this season and more fearless this year.” Raina added.

The star-studded side is ready for the big challenge

LSG enters IPL 2026 with a strong squad and renewed ambition after a disappointing campaign last season. The franchise finished seventh in IPL 2025 and failed to qualify for the playoffs, prompting them to reshape their squad for the upcoming tournament.

Pant will lead the side as captain after being retained for ₹ 27 crore, making him one of the most valuable players in the league. The team is also supported by a strategic consultant Kane Williamsonhis experience is expected to help shape the team’s tactical approach.

LSG’s biggest strength lies in its pace attack, which could be one of the fastest bowling units in IPL history. This series has an interesting pace Mayank Yadav along with international stars Anrich Nortje and Muhammad Shami.

Their batting unit is equally formidable, boasting big hits like Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh Along with Pooran. Meanwhile, Wanindu Hasaranga adds quality spin and valuable low-order hitting.

Despite the star power, questions remain about the injury history of some key fast bowlers and the lack of experienced finishers in the lower middle order. Lucknow will start against the IPL 2026 campaign Capitals of Delhi on April 1, hoping that his high-risk, high-reward strategy can finally deliver his first IPL title.
