Bayern München secured a dramatic 3-2 win over rivals Borussia Dortmund with a late goal from Joshua Kimmich proving decisive in a thrilling Der Klassiker.
The top two teams in the Bundesliga met at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK on February 28, 2026. Bayern arrived as league leaders, eight points ahead of their hosts. Dortmund looked to revive their title challenge with a crucial home win.
The match burst into action with an early warning. Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck received a yellow card in the 20th minute for a hard tackle.

Dortmund refused to give up. Daniel Svensson brought the home team back into the game, equalizing at home in the 83rd minute. Marcel Sabitzer provided the assist, setting up a nervy finish.
However, Bayern had a decisive last moment. Joshua Kimmich fired home the winner in the 87th minute, sealing a vital three points for the champions. His late goal silenced the home support.
Bayern’s superior possession (67%) and expected goals (xG 2.05) finally paid off. Dortmund, with an xG of 1.04, were efficient with their limited shots on goal. Harry Kane was rated 8.7 for his two goals.
This spectacular 3-2 victory extends Bayern München’s advantage at the top of the Bundesliga table to eleven points. Borussia Dortmund’s title ambitions now face a major battle.
