Strasbourg stage an impressive final comeback, securing a 2-2 draw with a stoppage-time penalty to deny Marseille a crucial home win.
Marseille squandered a two-goal lead as Strasbourg staged a spectacular late comeback at the Orange Velodrome. A stoppage-time penalty ensured a thrilling 2-2 draw on Valentine’s Day.
Fourth-placed Marseille entered the match looking to consolidate their European place. They sat on 39 points, aiming to extend their lead over their rivals. Strasbourg, ranked seventh, with 30 points, wanted to reduce the difference.
Marseille started brightly, showing early intent. In the 14th minute, Mason Greenwood opened the scoring. Amine Gouiri provided a pinpoint assist, which allowed Greenwood to fire past the Strasbourg keeper.
The home team looked comfortable after the first goal. Strasbourg struggled to create clear chances. Marseille dictated the game for much of the first half, pressing for the second goal.

These changes led to a comeback from the visitors. Sebastian Nanasi pulled one back for Strasbourg in the 73rd minute. M. Godo provided the assist and gave the visiting team confidence.
Strasbourg pressed hard in the final moments. His persistence paid off in the seventh minute of added time. J. Panichelli calmly converted a spectacular penalty and grabbed a point for Strasbourg.
Strasbourg recorded a higher expected goals (xG) of 2.02, beating Marseille’s 1.46. The visitors also had more total shots (12 to 10) and dominated possession with 56%. Marseille had more shots on goal (6 to 5).
