Khaleb McRae’s indoor 400m world record

The American is clocked at 44.52 at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville on Friday.

Khaleb McRae broke Caron Clement’s 400m world record 44.57 to 44.52 at the World Indoor Tour Silver meet in Fayetteville on Friday (February 13).

The 25-year-old, who was part of the USA’s silver medal-winning 4x400m at last year’s world championships in Tokyo, covered the 200m in 21.24 before winning by just over a second from William Jones.

If validated, McRae’s time would better the official world record of 44.57 set by Caron Clement on the same track in 2005 by five hundredths of a second.

Michael Norman (44.52) and Christopher Morales Williams (44.49) posted faster times, but neither was certified for record purposes.

KcRae, who won the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix earlier this year, had a previous indoor PB of 45.02. Last year, she set her best outdoor time of 43.91 and reached the semifinals at the world championships in Tokyo.

Elsewhere, Olympic champion Julien Alfred clocked a world-leading 6.99 to win the women’s 60m, ahead of Jasius Sears (7.03) and Briana Liston (7.07).
