World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is five times back. Scheffler came out of the gates with an uncharacteristic 73 on Thursday, but he has played the last 36 holes at 10 under to give himself an outside shot by running down Matsuyama to win the WM Phoenix Open for the third time.
“I’ve put myself in contention from this exact position in this golf tournament, and it’s one of those places where you can get hot,” Scheffler said Friday. “That’s what I’ll be looking to do over the weekend.”
