Lecce secured a crucial 2-1 win over Udinese, with Lameck Banda scoring a spectacular 90th-minute winner at the Estadio Via del Mare.
In a hotly contested Serie A clash on 8 February 2026, Lecce beat Udinese in front of their home crowd. This result provides much-needed relief for the Salentini, who entered the match languishing in 17th place after a challenging run of form. Udinese, sitting comfortably in ninth position and enjoying a more consistent season, were looking to consolidate their European aspirations.
Lecce started strongly, taking an early lead in the 5th minute. Omri Gandelman seized a chance and struck home to ignite the passionate home support. The first goal set a positive tone for the home side, who seemed determined to dominate possession.
However, Udinese found the equalizer at half-time. In the 26th minute, Oumar Solet calmly converted a penalty, silencing the local crowd. This tied the score, changing the momentum of the game.
Despite the setback, Lecce remained in control for much of the opening period. They registered more shots and showed greater attacking intent. Udinese’s only shot on target in the first half was a penalty, highlighting Lecce’s defensive organisation.
The teams went into the break tied at 1. Lecce needed to find a way to convert their possession and chances into another goal. For Udinese, the challenge was to create more genuine attacking opportunities from open play, beyond their spot-kick.
The second half started with both teams fighting hard for control. Udinese made early changes to freshen up their squad, bringing on L. Miller and V. Bayo in the 64th minute. Soon after, N. Bertola was booked for a foul as the physicality of the game increased.
Lecce responded with tactical substitutions of their own, with S. Pierotti, W. Cheddira and R. Sottil coming on in the 68th and 78th minutes respectively. The changes indicated a clear desire to push for a winning goal. As the clock wound down, Lameck Banda was shown a yellow card in the 84th minute for a difficult challenge, followed by I. Gueye for Udinese in 89.
The tension was palpable, but Lecce refused to settle for a draw. In the 90th minute, missing substitute Lameck Banda stepped up. He expertly beat the Udinese keeper and left the Estadio Via del Mare elated with his spectacular late winner. Omri Gandelman was substituted two minutes into added time.
Lecce’s victory was underpinned by their statistical dominance, recording a total of 16 shots compared to Udinese’s 6. They also had 53% possession and boasted a superior expected goal (xG) of 1.64 to Udinese’s 0.88. Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye made 3 saves, keeping his team in the contest for long periods.
This 2-1 win represents a vital three points for Lecce in their quest for Serie A survival. For Udinese, it is a painful late defeat on the road, squandering an opportunity to climb higher in the table.
