European 400m indoor record for Attila Molnar

The Hungarian clocked 45.01 at the Czech indoor gala in Ostrava on Tuesday.

Attila Molnar clocked 45.01 in the men’s 400m at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meet in Ostrava on Tuesday, breaking the European record shared by Thomas Schoenlebe and Karsten Warholm.

The Hungarian was chased around the lap by Jonas Pfeiffers but held on to win as he beat the European mark of 45.05 set by Schönlebe in 1988 and Warholm in 2019.

Fijfers finished runner-up with a Dutch record of 45.48 points.

However, it was Holland who won the women’s 400m as Liek Klaver set a world lead of 51.00.

The all-time European rankings for the men’s 800m were rewritten. Elliot Crestan won in a Belgian record of 1:43.83 as Maciej Wyderka was second in a Polish record of 1:44.07 and Mark English third in 1:44.23 to better his own Irish record.

As fast times continued, Holland’s Sam Chapple was fourth in a PB of 1:44.75 and Marino Blok was fifth in a Croatian record of 1:45.27.
