Joan Mir took the lead on a rain-hit day 2 of MotoGP 2026 Septang testing as Yamaha suffered engine problems.

The lap times continued to fall, as did the rain, as Honda’s Joan Mir topped the timesheets on day two of the MotoGP pre-season Sepang test.

After a successful first day of testing on Tuesday, an afternoon shower on Wednesday won another full day of mileage for the MotoGP grid.

Marc Marquez set the standard on the first dayand the rest of the factory-backed Ducati riders had plenty of positives to take into day two with more friendly machinery.

Fabio Quatararo has withdrawn from the rest of the week. He suffered a broken finger following a serious accident on Tuesday.

It’s no problem, though, that Yamaha pulled out of the second day of testing due to an unexpected engine problem with the new V4-powered M1.

Joan Mir took first place on day two of the MotoGP 2026 Sepang test.

The session began in scorching conditions, with Fabio Di Giantantonio setting the first benchmark on his new factory Ducati bike.

Performance standards were reached earlier in the day when Joan Mir clocked a historic 1:56.874, a significant six-tenths improvement on last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix qualifying time.

Franco Morbidelli then joined Club Mir at 1:56, but the main talking point was Yamaha’s absence.

The Iwata-based factory suspended the test program due to an unresolved technical issue on day one, which kept their pit box quiet for the duration of the blog’s coverage.

The afternoon action was slowed by a crash from Alex Marquez, which damaged the factory Ducati bike.

A sudden spell of rain hit the circuit at around 4pm local time, effectively ending a meaningful dry run.
