The session began in scorching conditions, with Fabio Di Giantantonio setting the first benchmark on his new factory Ducati bike.
Performance standards were reached earlier in the day when Joan Mir clocked a historic 1:56.874, a significant six-tenths improvement on last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix qualifying time.
Franco Morbidelli then joined Club Mir at 1:56, but the main talking point was Yamaha’s absence.
The Iwata-based factory suspended the test program due to an unresolved technical issue on day one, which kept their pit box quiet for the duration of the blog’s coverage.
The afternoon action was slowed by a crash from Alex Marquez, which damaged the factory Ducati bike.
A sudden spell of rain hit the circuit at around 4pm local time, effectively ending a meaningful dry run.
