Odyssey has always been a leader in stretch technology, going back more than 20 years with their first 2 ball shooter.
Now the company is adding another option to their lineup with the new 1/2 ball stretch assist in the Ai-Dual shooting line.
“When you look down at address, you want something that’s so smooth that you don’t see a break,” Callaway VP/President of Product Strategy Jacob Davidson told GOLF Callaway. “Half the ball on the shooter and the actual ball—they just all blend together. It unlocks this tension and freedom where everything just lines up perfectly and subconsciously, your brain just lets it go.”
The new Ai-Dual line features the company’s Ai-Dual insert, first used in S2S Tri-Hot Lineand there are six traditional models and four Square 2 Square models. Six of the new gauges are available with the new 1/2 ball alignment assist

What’s really new with Odyssey Ai-Dual machines — and why you should care
Technique that needs no explanation
The 2-ball alignment aid has been a part of the Odyssey line for years, and it shows how much better people aim with the ball on the frame and centered in the middle of the putting face. The only downside, Davidson admitted, is that it can be a little busy for some.
For the new Ai-Dual lineup, Odyssey engineers decided to create a new system that was simple and accomplished the same thing as the 2-ball. This is where the new 1/2 Ball comes in.

“The moment you see it, you can’t unsee it,” Davidson said. “You don’t have to explain it to the customer. The lightbulb moment goes on.”
That’s when Akshay Bhatia became the first player to use the new alignment aid on the PGA Tour when he switched to an Ai-Dual Jailbird 1/2 Ball Cruiser Broomstick at the Procore Championship last fall.
“They went out and played a practice round on Wednesday and he had his coach and his team watch him line up every putt, and just the alignment based on the starting line of where he was looking was completely different,” Davidson said. “He liked the forward spin, the insertion, the insertion feel, but the extension technology was the key.”
The first two rounds on Akshay Bhatia’s new machine, the Odyssey Ai-Dual Jailbird Cruiser 1/2-Ball, seem to be going well.

And while the technology needs no explanation, Callaway worked with two college professors at Baylor and Clemson to test how well the alignment aid worked. With over 1,000 putts hit by 52 testers, players hit more than 10 percent more six-foot shots with the help of the 1/2 ball extension.
Same insert, bigger scene
The entry named Ai-Dual is actually making its second appearance in an Odyssey shooter. It was originally released on the S2S Tri-Hot line, but will now be more available on the main Odyssey line.

The insert consists of two layers of urethane with a softer outer layer and a harder inner layer formed by artificial intelligence to control ball speed. While there is no window to see the back of the insert like that The Ai-ONE lineyou can see the contours at the bottom of the inset at the bottom of the gauge.
As in the Tri-Hot, the insert is paired with deeper and more aggressive forward spin design grooves to provide consistent forward spin across the entire face.
Updates to S2S
There are three options Square 2 Square with formats No. 7, Jailbird and S2S Max. While Tri-Hot introduced low-torque gauges without shaft linkage, the new Ai-Dual options still have shaft tension, albeit reduced from 3.3˚ to 2˚ from the Ai-ONE Square 2 Square models.
“In the last 18 months, 40 percent of the market has said, ‘We don’t mind the weak axle. We bought it. We love it,” Davidson said.

On the standard-length models, Odyssey has created a new reverse taper grip, which compensates for shaft tilt. While other manufacturers use straight grips with tapered offset on their low-torque, lean-shaft machines, the Odyssey’s version has a standard-sized upper, making the grip feel more natural.
The S2S models will also come with a heavier black SL120 axle than the silver SL90 axle in the rest of the Ai-Dual line. This came directly from Tour feedback as players were looking for low-torque models with heavier shafts to stabilize the shot. The black shaft is also less distracting with the shaft being centered.

My take: Alignment means everything
Your shooter is only as good as your aim, and Odyssey has always taken this message to heart.
The big message with the new Ai-Dual lineup is the 1/2 ball extension help, which is something that looks a lot better than the 2-Ball in my mind and accomplishes the same thing.
When it comes to the Odyssey formation, the Double Wide is my favorite shape and going back and forth between the traditional version and the new 1/2 Ball version has been fun to see how much better I focus on the ball. We’ve seen more subtle examples of this concept, but the Odyssey version is simpler and easier to use.
This is also the whole point of alignment technology. What good is it if you have to explain to someone what it is and what it does?
The new line is also another example to praise the Ai-Dual insert for its vastly improved feel over the Ai-ONE. The Ai-Dual feels soft, but still has enough volume to get some feedback that most players want. I think this could be an Odyssey insert that starts to rival the Microhinge for dominance on the PGA Tour.
