Chris Gotterup’s star power continues to rise as he just claimed his third PGA Tour victory to kick off the 2026 season at the Sony Open.
Gotterup is a bit rare when it comes to equipment, as he is a Bridgestone employee who only uses irons and golf balls. Gotterup games Handcuffs 220 MBwhich are The first clubs that Bridgestone has released since 2019.
The rest of his bag consists mostly of TaylorMade clubs and a Ping G440 LST driver.
There are some changes for Gotterup from His last win last summer in Scotlandincluding its absence 16 year old TaylorMade RSi TP 1-ironwhich was thrown just for the links of the golf season.
Why Bridgestone’s New Blade Iron Is So Intriguing | Fully equipped
Jack Hirsch
The most obvious change is Gotterup’s golf ball, which is the new Bridgestone VS Black Proto. The new ball is actually the one that will be announced as the 2026 edition of the Bridgestone Tour BX on January 20.
Bridgestone is still mum on details about the new ball, but said the prototype process went through 20 different material formulations and over 240 prototypes. The discovery was a completely new material discovery.
In November, the company teased test results with regular players showing an average increase of 2.3 mph in ball speed and 8.7 yards of added distance with different VS Proto balls. Tiger Woods also said he saw an increase in ball speed and confirmed he would play the new ball upon his return to competition in 2026.
Matt Kuchar also used it last month during his PNC Father-Son win with his son Cameron. But now Gotterup has started 2026 with the first official PGA Tour win for the new ball.
Another change since the Scottish Open was a complete move to TaylorMade’s MG5 wedges, which were still in the prototype stage in July.

INCREDIBLE FEEL Incredible feel is a must for a great wedge game. The MG5 is forged from mild carbon steel and engineered with geometry to deliver great feel with great feedback. MAXIMUM SPIN The MG5 uses all-new, more aggressive grooves designed to maximize spin. Saw milled channels produce tighter tolerances allowing engineers to design steeper walls and sharper radii intended to maximize spin in both dry and wet conditions. ALL-CONDITION PERFORMANCE Raw face with Spin Tread technology channels moisture to help maintain spin. In the same way that tire tread helps your drive stay connected to the road, laser-etched channels redirect water into the impact and create more friction between the club face and the golf ball to maintain spin in wet conditions. Craftsmanship MEETS CONSISTENCY Handcrafted and then ground to perfection. Each wedge and sole grind is precision ground to eliminate the natural human error that comes with hand polishing. Our builds offer unmatched durability and craftsmanship that players can count on every time. CARCOAL FINISH The MG5 debuts a sleek and sophisticated charcoal finish that reduces glare and enhances its aesthetic appeal on the bag.

Ball: Bridgestone VS Black Proto with MindSet (Tour BX ’26)
Bridgestone Tour BX MindSet Golf Balls
TOUR BX delivers increased ball speed for maximum tip distance and HIT & SIT performance on approach shots. TOUR BX is ideal for players with swing speeds over 105 MPH who want Tiger Woods and Jason Day to help develop the NEW TOUR BX and they along with Mat Kuchar and Chris Gotterup play it in professional competition. Jason Day helped develop MindSet and plays ball in professional competition. MindSet MindSet is a visual cue on the golf ball that reminds you of the easy three-step process. Step One: IDENTIFY YOUR OBJECT. The first step is to gather information. Where is my target, what is the distance, wind conditions and what club should I hit? Step two: visualize the shot path. This step is all about relating to the target and visualizing the shot or shot you want to hit. Step Three: FOCUS ON THE POINT. In this step, you stay connected to the target, clear your mind of analytical thoughts, focus on the green dot, and execute the shot you visualized.
