Tottenham Hotspur pattern Cristian Romero appeared to direct criticism at senior figures at the club after Thursday’s 3-2 Premier League defeat. Bournemouth. The centre-back posted a message on Instagram shortly after the game that suggested frustration beyond the on-field performances.
In the initial version, Romero implied that certain people only make public appearances in positive periods and accused them of spreading “lies”. This post was later removed from his account.
A revised statement was then shared, very similar to the original message but without reference to dishonesty. Despite the edit, the tone continued to hint at dissatisfaction with those operating above the staff.
Romero emphasized responsibility among players, acknowledging responsibility for results, and suggested others should also reach out to supporters during difficult periods.
Results and Tottenham fans’ upset
Spurs’ struggles have come under increased scrutiny, with the north London outfit recording just one win from their last six league games and falling to 14th in the table. The setback on the south coast added to the sense of unease around the club.
The anger of the supporters has been evident in recent home games. Fans expressed their displeasure during a 0-0 draw Brentford and again after a 1-1 draw with Sunderlandwhen boos greeted the final whistle.
The tensions were also visible during the Bournemouth match. Micky van de Ven i straw were engaged in exchanges with traveling sympathizers, while Pedro Porro had to be calmed down by the goalkeeper Guillem Vicari as an argument threatened to escalate.
Adding to the awkward atmosphere, head coach Thomas Frank was photographed before kick-off with a cup of Arsenal-branded coffee.
This is not the first time Romero has publicly questioned how Tottenham are being managed. The 27-year-old, who has made 146 appearances for the club, has previously taken to social media to voice concerns.
When former head coach Ange Postecoglou was fired in June, Romero referenced long-standing difficulties within the organization as he released a farewell message.
Earlier, in December 2024, the Argentina international openly criticized the board, highlighting what he considered insufficient spending. His latest comments seem to continue that theme as the pressure mounts on and off the pitch.
