The left-hander hit the monumental milestone during the fourth T20I against Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium, further cementing his status as the best batsman of the modern era.

Mandhana entered the match needing just 27 runs to reach the milestone. He struck in clinical style in the seventh over, taking just 281 runs to cross the 10,000-run mark across all formats. With this, he broke the previous record of a former Indian captain Mithali RajReaching the milestone in 291 shots. The star switch is now the fourth woman in history to join the elite “10k Club” and she’s also the youngest to do so.

The milestone was the beginning of Mandhana’s dominance on the night. He went on to play a brilliant knock of 80 off 48 deliveries laced with 11 boundaries and three powerful sixes. Along with the opening partner Shafali VermaMandhana put together a record opening stand of 162 runs to take India to 221/2 – the team’s highest total in women’s T20Is. During the innings, Mandhana overtook Harmanpreet Kaur to become India’s leading six-scorer in the T20I format, while also recording her 32nd fifty in the shortest format – the most by any woman worldwide.
Fastest to 10,000 international runs in women’s cricket
1) Smriti Mandhana: As mentioned above, Mandhana batted brilliantly during the 4th T20I with an impressive strike rate of 166.67 comprising 80 runs against the Lankans. His powerful knock not only helped India post the highest total in the shortest format but also laid the foundation for a clinical 30-run victory for the hosts.
2) Mithali Raj: Mithali was the first Indian woman to reach these five figures and the second player overall. He achieved this feat on 12 March 2021 during the ODI against South Africa in Lucknow. He reached this milestone in his 291st international innings. Known for her incredible longevity (over 23 years), she is currently the all-time leading run scorer in women’s international cricket with 10,868 runs.
3) Charlotte Edwards: The England legend was the first woman in history to cross the 10,000-run mark in international cricket. He reached that milestone in 2016 and pitched 308 innings to get there. A classic batsman and long-time England captain, Edwards retired with 10,273 international runs, holding the record for most runs for several years.
4) Suzie Bates: Bates became the third woman to enter the elite club and the first New Zealander to do so. He reached the milestone on 12 July 2024 during a T20I against England. He needed 314 shots to cross the mark. Bates is a unique entry in this list as he reached the milestone without ever playing a Test match, relying on his dominance in ODIs and T20Is.
