Hear: Haney–Crocker needs Turki money

Promoter Eddie Hearn says that unless Turki Alalshikh is involved, he doesn’t see it possible to make a welterweight unification fight between Devin Haney and Lewis Crocker.

Matchroom promoter Hearn believes WBO 147-lb champion Haney wants the kind of money only Turki would produce for a fight against IBF champion Crocker.

Haney needs the IBF title held by Crocker to give him more bargaining power for the rematch with Ryan Garcia or a fight against Conor Benn. But he got used to the big money from his fights against Ryan, Jose Ramirez and Brian Norman Jr. He will not want to return to the days when he was not well paid for his services.

It doesn’t matter that Haney’s last two performances have been lackluster in the eyes of the fans. What matters is that he won, and the fans tuned in to see him for whatever reason. Some fans watch Haney because they hope he loses, and they want to see it live when it happens.

“Unless Turki Alalshikh turns around and makes that fight, who’s going to pay the money those guys want and need for that fight? Because it doesn’t generate it,” Eddie Hearn says via Belfastlive about Turki Alalshikh being involved in getting Devin Haney to fight IBF welterweight champion Lewis Crocker.

A fight between Haney and Crocker will not sell on DAZN PPV. There won’t be enough interest no matter where the fight takes place. Crocker doesn’t have the name to get fans excited to see him fight Haney on PPV.

“If we can get Devin Haney to fight or if we can make a big fight with Keyshawn or whoever it’s going to be, we’ll look at it, but right now we have to make a defense,” Hearn said.
