BEGINNING Aretera axis company began to make a name for itself with the first two axis offersEC1 and Alpha 1.
But its newest product, the AO2, is potentially the line that could help the company really break into the PGA Tour.
On GOLF’s Fully Equipped, co-host Johnny Wunder brought company co-founders Alex Dee and Chris Elson to discuss the new AO2 and why they expect it to be a shaft that will be “very well received on the PGA Tour.”
“It’s kind of an overall profile, more active in the handle versus, you know, stronger in the middle and top, which is very popular on tour, historically,” Elson said. “We’re incorporating the power grid material as well as our coreless design, which is a carryover from the EC1, to increase tourism stability in it as well. So hopefully it’s an even more innovative, performance-based type of product than a lot of those other axles that are out there with a similar profile.”
Aretera AO2 bluewood shaft
The AO2 stands in a class of its own with intelligent design, fine-tuned craftsmanship and meticulous manufacturing. Active in the grip and solid mid-to-top, the AO2 translates premier engineering into shot repeatability. We understand how challenging it can be to navigate the array of variables between swing dynamics and in-game shaft profiles. That’s why we’ve strategically designed the ONLY ONE that attributes the difference between the Blue and Gray profiles—tip stiffness—to simplify the process and enable spin and launch to match a player’s swing type.

While this is a shaft that can do very well for the typical PGA Tour player, one of the things that made the EC1 popular is that it can accommodate players of all skill levels.
Elson expects players of all speed types to find a fit with the AO2 as well.
“It’s not just a shaft profile that works well for people sailing 122. That’s why we’re doing it in a 45-gram version as well, because we look at that type of profile and we tend to look at pairing shaft profiles with swing types,” he said. “And we tend to see people who have that kind of late release, kind of aggressive at the end of their swing, holding the angle of the type of player being somebody that works really well with that kind of profile. That kind of swing doesn’t necessarily have to be someone who, again, is cruising at 122. transition, still holds the angle.
