The main event of this upcoming Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view card features two elite fighters with contrasting styles, as former WBA Super Lightweight World Champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz is scheduled to face former WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Lamont Roach Jr.
Simply put, the boxer who is able to execute and dictate the fight will win this highly anticipated fight. The action will take place on Saturday night, December 6, at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Cruz and Roach share the same thought about winning and then immediately move on to another big fight. Ironically, both Cruz and Roach were thrust into the spotlight after having highly competitive fights against Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
In December 2021, Pitbull Cruz made his mainstream boxing debut when he challenged Tank Davis for the WBA (Regular) Lightweight title. Cruz got off to a good start as he aggressively pushed forward and landed some solid punches to the body.
Throughout the fight, Cruz was the aggressor as he constantly pushed forward and forced Davis to fight off the back foot. It was a highly competitive battle, but at the end of the 12-round contest, Gervonta Davis was declared the winner.
Three years later, Isaac Cruz won his first world title when he stopped Rolly Romero in the eighth round. In his first defense, Cruz lost the WBA super-lightweight belt to Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela by split decision.
Cruz would bounce back by defeating Angel Fierro by unanimous decision. In his next fight, Cruz defeated Omar Salcido and won the vacant WBC interim title. Now Isaac Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) is about to face a man who is highly skilled and highly motivated.
In March 2025, a DMV contest took place in Brooklyn when Baltimore’s Gervonta Davis defended his WBA world title against Washington DC’s Lamont Roach. In the opening round, Roach set the pace of the round by limiting Davis to just one single punch.
Later in the eighth, Lamont Roach knocked Gervonta Davis off balance when he landed a hard right hand. A controversial moment occurred in the ninth round when Roach landed a jab, and Davis took a step back and proceeded to take a knee.
Instead of making the correct call and ruling it a knockdown, the referee decided to give Davis a warning. It was a back and forth type of fight, and at the end of the match the fight was declared a draw.
Now Lamont Roach Jr (25-1-2, 10 KOs) is ready to test himself in a different way. When he fought Davis, Roach faced a hard-hitting counterpuncher, but on December 6, Roach will fight an aggressive fighter who stays on the front foot.
Lamont Roach is a skilled counter puncher who has a high ring IQ, a solid jab, excels at using angles, has good punch placement and is defensively responsible. His opponent, Isaac Cruz, frequently uses a high guard and continues to apply relentless pressure.
This fight will feature the sharpness of Roach against the aggressiveness of Cruz. Roach wants to slow the fight down, use his technical advantages and box from the outside.
His opponent, Pitbull Cruz, wants a close fight. Cruz wants to stay on the front foot and fight at an accelerated pace, throwing punches in bunches.
The Isaac Cruz vs Lamont Roach WBC super lightweight interim title fight is an intriguing fight due to the fact that both fighters have a style that can defeat the other. The question is, which boxer will be able to successfully control range and distance, execute their game plan properly, and pull off a signature win?
