Emerging mumbai Ayush Mhatre Side Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) was established in 2025. The 18-year-old, also a rising Chennai Super Bowl (CSK) prospect, scored 310 off 53 balls on Friday (November 27, 2017) as Vidarbha’s 193 from 193 overs

Ayush Mhatre surpasses Rohit Sharma’s record feat

At 18 years and 135 days, Mhatre has become the youngest to achieve the feat in the 19-year-old format after Rohit Sharma. Rohit had a mercy streak of 1 year and 339 days, a milestone which is the longest in Indian domestic cricket. New feat, elite company, outstanding young achievements ahead Unmukt chandash and quinton de kock.

The milestone completes a rare hat-trick for Mhatre, who has registered a T20 century, first class and is on the list of one century in his budding career. His fiery SMAT innings – 8 Fours and 8 Sixes, 6, reaching his fifty in just 20 balls and his century off 49 deliveries, saw him stamp himself as one of India’s most exciting young batsmen.

What made the tenure even more remarkable was the timing: The knock came just hours after he named India’s captain for the 2025 ACT U19 Asia Cup, fueling the buzz around his rapid rise. The innings showcased his hallmarks – clean batting, fearless shot-making and mature strike spin – attributes that Rohit Sharma drew comparisons for himself.

Mumbai recover from an early collapse to seal a seven-wicket haul over Vidarbha

Mumbai were under pressure in the chase at 21/2, 1 for a duck and Hardik stepped up to salvage an 88-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav in the first over to stabilize a ladder with Mumbai.

Once set, Mhatre changed dramatically in the latter half, dominating the side’s boundary areas with effortless selection shots and clean lofts. The Partnership, which ended with Shivam Dube, who smashed 39 balls with three fours and three sixes, sealed an unbeaten 85 off just 35 balls, a second consecutive elite group victory under Sardul Thakur.

Vidarbha’s earlier 192/7, Atharva Research’s 64 and Aman Mokhade’s 61 eventually fell short against Mhatre’s brilliance.
