Jannik the Sinner‘s return to No. 1 highlights this week’s ATP Rankings news. The Italian, who extended his indoor winning streak to 26 by winning the Masters title in Paris, took the bow. Carlos Alcaraz to return to No. 1 for the first time since Alcaraz took the No. 1 spot after the US Open.
The battle of Alcaraz and Sinner will continue until the conclusion of the ATP Finals. When the points are released for last year’s ATP Finals, Alcaraz will return to No. 1 next week and could end the season at No. 1 if he reaches the final at the final ATP event.
The discrepancy is explained as follows: Sinner needs to defend 1,500 points to win the Torino title undefeated last year, while Alcaraz falls just 200 points short.
So it will come down to Turin, with Alcaraz holding the advantage as the tournament begins, but Sinner going in with a bang as the ATP’s best indoor player so far.
Bublik, Fonseca, Vacherot Hit Career Highs
Alexander Bublik climbs to career No. 13 in Monday’s ATP rankings, the Kazakh talent climbing to his current position from No. 82 at Indian Wells in March after winning four titles and reaching his first major quarter-final at Roland-Garros.
Bublik was a semi-finalist at the Rolex Paris Masters last week. The 28-year-old is closing in on the Top 10 and is aiming to become the sixth ATP player to achieve the feat for the first time this year, joining Alex de Minaur, Tommy Paul, Jack Draper, Lorenzo Musetti and Ben Shelton.
Joao Fonseca rose another four spots to a career-high ranking of No.24 – the Brazilian is the highest-ranked teenager on the ATP Tour.
Valentin Vacherot moves up ten places to number 30 after reaching the Paris quarter-finals. He has climbed 174 places since the start of the Shanghai Masters and is the biggest climber in the ATP Top 50 this week.
