Veteran pro Marcel Siem did not have a good day on Thursday at 2025 BMW PGA Championship. But the six-time day of Tour World Tour’s winner worsened in the scorer tent after his round, where he warned of officials’ rules for his strange actions in the 18th hole, and then disqualified.
Give the strange nature of his DQ, Siem went to social media on Thursday night to explain the situation completely and denied that he had deceived.
Here’s what you need to know.
Marcel SIEM DQ’D After breaking the rules in BMW PGA
Siem withdrew for the first round of the BMW PGA championship at 2:40 AM et. After a disappointing season that has it inside 72 in the race for the Dubai rankingsSIEM hoped for a good week at Extinguished would improve his position.
But those hopes were broken early. Siem opened with a noise in the PAR-4 1 hole, after he lost his track shot straight in a tree stand. This first blow would prove that it was anticipating the things to come.
Bogeys at 3 and 4 followed, and he closed nine money with another square on his card for a 39.
Seduce
Things seemed a little better for Siem in the nine back, where he traded two birds for two Bogeys up to 15. But his seventh Bogey reached the 16th.
As he reached his last hole of the day, the 18th and 18th Wentworth hole, he was five in the round. Even an impossible eagle would not fail to save his tour.
18 is a straight dogleg, with Tees running up the right side. About half the road below the hole, a risk of water creek cuts through the lower street and continues on the right side of the hole to the green.
In an overview of his first goal of the day, Siem lost his car to 18 well. Then, although there were no markers outside the borders on the right, Siem hit a temporary provision.
He then continued to play temporarily, finishing the hole with a 6 after a penalty was applied in the stroke and remotely for his stroke
But when Siem came out of the scorer’s tent a few minutes later, his six-78 had turned into a disqualification.
So what exactly happened to 18 that led to a DQ? Fortunately, Siem shared a video explanation on Instagram Thursday evening that provided a very necessary context for the strange rules situation.
SIEM explains the error: ‘I didn’t cheat’
In his story in the video, Siem began by stating that he “did not cheat”.
“Hey guys, I just wanted to give you a quick overview of what happened today. I just wanted to let you know that I didn’t cheat it. I would never do it, so I was disqualified, unfortunately,” Siem in the video said.
He then continued to give a detailed account of the 18th hole incident from his point of view.
Siem claimed that he mistakenly believed he had OB to the right of the 18th hole. That is why he chose to hit a provision rather than walking up and searching for his original purpose.
“On the 18th, I pushed my driver to the right, I hit a provision, thinking it was out of bounds to the right. I never knew it was the danger of water to the right. However, he found my provision,” he explained.

This is when the story takes another strange turn.
Siem claimed that before hitting his second shot with his temporary ball, spectators warned him that they had found his first purpose. It was not out of bounds, but on the contrary it ceased either in a wooded area shortly before the water risk or inside the danger.
Then Siem, who later admitted that he was “tired of all day” at that point, chose to take his first purpose and continue to play his provisions.
“I was ready to hit my provision, so my fourth shot … and one of the spectators found my ball, my first. I entered there, tired all day already. And the ball was under the branch, I couldn’t break it. I said, well, this is unbearable. “As soon as I kept going on, I made birds with my second ball, to say, made a noise.”
Siege Choosing to play temporarily was a clear violation of the rules. If his initial shot was at risk of water, as he later claimed, he should not have hit a provision at all.
Instead, he should have searched his first ball, and after finding it, or receiving relief According to the yellow or red stock rulesor took a penalty kick and returned to Tee to hit his third shot.
In the scorer’s tent, Siem suddenly understood his mistake, as the video explained.
“Then we entered the note area, we signed up. I was ready to sign my card, and I just realized that something is unable.” Guys, I don’t think I made a 6, let’s call a judge, ”Siem said.
He then explained the official situation of the rules, resulting in his disqualification.
“I said, guy. I think I made a mistake here, right? I am thinking of returning to the 18th box and playing my third goal, because it is the danger of water, and if I would declare as unbearable, I must return, and I cannot hit my temporary ball,” Siem recalled.
He went on: “So it happened, so I’m disqualified because of that. Two strange weeks, very worrying. What is what it is, guys. I just wanted to tell you what happened.”
As for an explanation as to why such an experienced pro -pro -proofing can make such a noticeable mistake in a pro event, SIEM did not have much to offer.
He ended up his video by saying, “Sometimes you can’t explain things in life. All well. Pass a nice evening.”
