Bill Coore is a great name in the Golf Course architecture. But he was not always destined for a life in design. At college in Wake Forest, he studied the classics. Not the appearances of the golden age. Current classics. The history and literature of ancient Greece. He planned to become a university professor.
But you know how it goes. Plans are like tee shots. They receive startling turns. Sometimes they swell in delightful places.

Is planned for March at Resortwhere the American Golf Course Society Architects (Asgca) will hold Boot Design’s second annual camp. The inaugural edition, held at Erin Hills, in Wisconsin, in 2024, was such a success, asgca decided to return it.
Like the first boot camp, this year’s four-day, comprehensive program will provide aspiring and architecture designers a mix of classroom study and practical training, under the tutelage of architects listed in a separate site. After lectures and discussions on the foundations and principles of trade, participants will depart for field work at Pinehurst Sand Minors, adjacent to Pinehurst no. 10where they will take a chance to run a layout and design the holes that fit the landscape.
Together with work, there will be game, with rounds Pinehurst no. 2 and cradle in the company of boot camp instructors.
Those instructors – Jan Belon, Jeff Blume, Jeff Brauer, Bruce Charlton, Steve Forrest, Mike Hurdzan, Tom Marzolf and Damian Pascuzo – all are the presidents of the Asgca who have created hundreds of courses around the world. Consider this a journey of friends for architectural junkies, with abundant time to talk in the store with prominent figures in the field.
As a bonus, the curriculum will include a special appearance invited by the great former classics Bill Coorewho will lead the participants in a tour of his project in Pinehurst No. 11, which is currently under construction in sand mines and is expected to open at the end of 2027.
The camp will last from March 9-13. 2026. The cost is $ 20,000 per person, with $ 15,000 qualification for a charity discount for the Asgca Foundation, which supports projects and organizations that improve municipal courses, as well as programs aimed at the development of the next generation of industry leaders.
