Gauff with the highest seed coughed 14 double mistakes, but turned an early explosion into an inspiring conclusion playing its most dynamic tennis in the last set.
Gauff rocked a seven-game coil, returning to score a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win Veronika KudderMova to fight in the Montreal round of 16 today.

Two points in Tiebreaker, Kostyuk slipped and fell behind the initial base, threw her racquet, chose it and extended the point with a preface, and eventually won the point after climbing court.
Kostyuk converted seven out of 11 resting points and used 11 double mistakes from Kasatkina for her second direct victory with three sets.
