Emiliano Vargas today traded words with light welterweight contender Ernesto Mercado on social media.
Emiliano Vargas: accusations of jealousy
The son of the famous Fernando Vargas, Emiliano (15-0, 13 COs), who paid a lot of attention thanks to his promoters on the top rank, accused Mercado (17-0, 16) of being jealous of the attention he received from fans and the media.
Ideally, Emiliano would agree to fight Ernesto Mercado so that they could settle their beef in the ring. The highest rank is unlikely to take the chance. Emiliano is a future money maker, and they take care of him in the same way they did Edgar Berlanga and are currently doing with Xander Zayas. Hearn has so many big names on his match room timetable that he doesn’t have time to promote them in the same way as the top rank with Emiliano Vargas. Ernesto Mercado is an incredible talent, with much better amateur vouchers than Vargas, but Hearn does not give him the same promotion.
We see the same thing with the 2020 Olympic gold medal Andy Cruz. He is also promoted by Matchroom. Cruz is widely regarded as the best fighter in the lightweight section, in the view of many people, a much better talent than Shakur Stevenson. Hearn andy rarely mention. Hearn has too many talented fighters, and he is the most important man who does all the talk for matchroom.

Mercado is likely to destroy Emiliano because he has better talent and fundamentals. Vargas are more like a slide from the old block like his father, Fernando. Once the top rank in the future matches someone well, he will be exposed.
