Eddie Hearn wants Shakur Stevenson to go up to 140 to become a world champion of four divisions by staring at WBO Lights Welterweight Champion Theofimo Lopez next. Hearn likes to fight for Stevenson (24-0, 11 COs) to increase its popularity.
Shakur repeatedly exclaimed WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis after defeating William Zepeda on July 12 in Queens, New York. Stevenson felt that victory was good enough for him to earn a fight against Tank Davis. It is doubtful whether Hearn will deliver the tank fight to him.
Theofimo said last October he didn’t want to fight against Shakur because he was worried that he was a “Spiritual collapse” After beating him. He referred to how Shakur became emotional after losing in 2015 against Ruben Villa in the amateurs. Shakur “wanted to go to the roof of the hotel and jump,” Theofimo said.
Lopez fights questionable for Shakur
Unless Lopez has changed his altruistic concern over Shakur, the fight will not occur. Hearn will have to go in another direction. He signed Andy Cruz in the match room, and it would be an easy battle to make between Shakur and Cruz.
“I like the fight with Theofimo Lopez. I think he should get up and try to become a four-section champion,” Eddie Hearn told the media About Shakur Stevenson.
Hearn should know that it would be impossible to make theofimo agree to fight Stevenson. It is useless for Hearn to raise the fans’ hope by talking about Stevenson against Lopez next.
“I think it’s another big fight,” Hearn said when asked about the possibility that Stevenson was fighting welterweight Conor Benn. “We’ll see what happens to Benn and Eubank, and then go from there.”
It would be a good fight, but Benn seems to be setting up the re -broadcast with Chris Eubank JR.
