The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is gearing up to host the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 scheduled to be held in February/March next year. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has raised concerns over Pakistan’s preparations for the marquee ICC 50-over tournament.
The ICC Champions Trophy is all set to make a comeback after an eight-year hiatus. England last hosted the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, where Pakistan defeated India in the final to secure the title. It will be the first time the Pakistan Cricket Board will host an ICC event since co-hosting the ODI World Cup in 1996.
ICC Delegation to give feedback to Pakistan Cricket Board for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
An ICC delegation recently visited Pakistan to assess the venues and security measures in preparation for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
The group reviewed arrangements in key locations, including Karachi, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The delegation is expected to give feedback to the PCB.
According to a report by Sports Tak, the ICC has raised concerns over whether the ongoing renovation works in Pakistan will be completed in time for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The report added that no major issues are expected for the race, other than improving the venue. eight-team tournament.
“The ICC delegation has visited the facilities and met the officials, now they will give feedback to the host board, but as far as their satisfaction is concerned, there may be some concerns regarding the improvement of the venue, I don’t think there should be any issue,” Sports Tak’s report said.
PCB Issued Deadline 31st January
Sports Tak also reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board should complete the renovation of the venue for the ICC Champions Trophy before January 31.
The report said Pakistan had a four-month window to complete the upgrades, but was in a race against time to finish upgrading the facilities.
“Currently, all the scheduled venues are under development and the PCB has given the ICC till January 31 to complete the improvements. This may worry the ICC as the Champions Trophy is scheduled to be played on February 19. This means that the PCB has everything To meet the deadline for resolution, the improvement process needs to be accelerated, which may be a difficult task for Pakistan.”
PKR 12.5 Billion Allocated for PCB Repair Works
The Pakistan Cricket Board has allocated PKR 12.5 billion for the renovation of three major grounds: Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi and Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi.
These three stadiums have been proposed as host venues by the PCB as per the draft schedule.
The final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be played in Lahore, where India is scheduled to host all its matches. The tournament is initially scheduled to start on February 19.
The PCB has announced the revised schedule for the upcoming three-match Test series against England. The second Test, originally scheduled for Karachi, will now be held at the Multan Cricket Stadium due to ongoing renovations. The schedule of the other two Test matches remains unchanged.
