HomeFootball Football Tottenham’s best and worst players in narrow win over Coventry City By NetSPORT September 19, 2024 0 11 FacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsApp It wasn’t pretty, but Tottenham Hotspur managed to get past Coventry City and qualify for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. The Lilywhites had surprisingly fallen behind at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the 63rd minute thanks to a goal from Brandon Thomas-Asante, before an 88th-minute goal from Djed Spence and a 92nd-minute goal from Brennan Johnson secured a late victory. Here are Tottenham’s best players in the 2-1 win, courtesy of 90 minutes beloved player ratings. Dejan Kulusevski: 7/10 Made the difference from the bench / Catherine Ivill – AMA/GettyImages He only played 15 minutes of the game, but it was by far the best 15 minutes Tottenham enjoyed at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Kulusevski’s introduction sparked Ange Postecoglou’s side into life after going 1-0 down, with the Swede’s quick pass around the corner setting up Spence’s equaliser. His movement off the ball caused Coventry a boatload of problems too. Timo Werner: 4/10 Poor performance / David Rogers/GettyImages Having not started any of Tottenham’s four Premier League games so far this season, Timo Werner he was finally given the chance to impress from the game against Coventry City. He didn’t do it. The German was completely ineffective down the left flank, failing to create a single chance for his team-mates and not having a single shot on target during his 74 minutes on the pitch. It was no surprise that Spurs looked like a much, much better team when he was replaced by Kulusevski. dishonorable mention Dominic Solanke: 4/10 A poor introduction of the newcomer / Pete Norton/GettyImages When a team wins, we usually give an honorable mention in our “best player” section of this article. However, thanks to how poor Spurs were against lower league opposition on Wednesday, we had to make a dishonorable mention in the ‘Worst Player’ section. This dishonorable mention went to record signing Dominic Solanke. Honestly, his poor performance wasn’t even entirely his fault. The striker competed well at times but was ultimately completely out of service throughout the game.
