Oleksandr Usyk arrested in Poland at the airport in Krakow

By Charles Brown – 09/17/2024 – Commentary

Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk was arrested today at Krakow Airport in Poland for unknown reasons.

In an update from USYK:

“All is well my friends. There was a misunderstanding that was quickly resolved. Thanks to everyone who was concerned. Thank you, Ukrainian diplomats, for your support. And respect for Polish law enforcement officers, who perform their duties despite the height, weight, arm reach and regalia. “

It is good news that the situation was resolved so quickly, with Usyk being released from custody. He did not say what the reason was for him to be arrested.

What Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) would have done to get arrested is unclear. Fans on social media are joking that he is being arrested for beating Tyson Fury on May 18, beating the living daylights out of him and looking him up in the ninth round after being hit with 20 consecutive head shots .

The undefeated Usyk is preparing for his rematch with former WBC heavyweight champion Fury on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Fury may have thought he was off the hook after hearing about USYK’s arrest, but now he’s back at it. He can’t be too happy about that.

Now that the fight is back on, Fury will have to figure out a way to strike back as the last fight didn’t end too well for him. Usyk dominated the competition and took off. He could have lashed out if not for the referee who stepped in to give Tyson an eighth round in the ninth.

Usyk already beat Fury in May last year and is now looking for his second straight loss. This would make USYK 4-0 from his fights against Fury and Anthony Joshua.
